ORGANISATION BACKGROUND

    The Diepkloof Arts Academy is a non-profit organisation that was founded in

   2010 by Thabang Molefe, Tokologo Mathibedi and Ernest Gololo.

   The organisation was started as a result of young people’s creative needs not

   being met. In Soweto there are very few organisations that provide youth with a

   for artistic development, we realised that the is a gap and this is one of the reasons

   why we started The Diepkloof  Arts Academy (TDAA)

      

1.     The primary objectives of the Organization are :

a.    To support youth in Soweto to explore, develop and utilize their creative and artistic talents for a better society.

b.    Organising cultural activities in conjunction with young people such as will offer a platform to potential or actual talent such as musicians, actors, dancers, poets, audio visual and other designers, and practitioners of other relevant disciplines, whenever possible in collaboration with local organisations and/or networks.

c.    Combat problems that the youth are faced with i.e. Unemployment, Poverty, Substance Abuse, Teenage Pregnancy, Crime and Violence, thus providing a platform and extramural activities for the youth.

We want members of the public to look around and see that the youth are the

Community’s biggest asset and that they need to be supported and encouraged to    realise their full potential to become fully-fledged urban residents.

TDAA focuses  on youth between 18 and 35 years of age who are passionate about transforming their dreams and ambitions into actual products and activities. Using creative tools such as Music, Dance, Theatre, Visual Art, Photography, Film, Events and Cultural Exchange young people get the opportunity to develop their skills.

The Diepkloof Arts Academy is aimed at three things:

-                      To engender the active involvement of young people, to improve the quality of lives of young people in Soweto and removing all social and economic challenges that may impair their human development ability.

-                      Organising a global communication platform in conjunction with young people using the spoken and written word and or images.

-                      Developing new talent in this field as well as promoting the emerging artists, and paving career paths for them. 

3. VISION

        

    A generation of young people with good access to support mechanisms that build a

    better future for all.

4. GOAL

    Our goal is to provide a supportive environment and a sense of belonging for the

    youth, and this can be mostly achieved through carving out a space for them in

   Arts, Sports and Recreation.
